๐Ÿ“งEmail Forwarding

Send a Slack thread to anyone, without copy-paste

Slack is great for now-conversations and brittle for later-archive. With Email Forwarding, a single ๐Ÿ“ง reaction sends the full thread to a verified address โ€” clients, exec stakeholders, your own inbox โ€” so decisions live where they need to be read.

How it works

  1. 1

    Whitelist a recipient (once)

An admin adds [email protected] on the Powers โ†’ Emailpage. Viably emails a verification link to that address. After one click, they're permanently whitelisted.

  2. 2

React with ๐Ÿ“ง on any message

Viably opens a small picker showing the whitelisted recipients available. Choose one (or several) and confirm.

  3. 3

The thread is sent as a clean email

Viably formats the entire thread โ€” message text, replies, image attachments โ€” into a single email and sends it from your workspace's branded sender address.

  4. 4

    Or ask Via in chat

In AI Chat: "email this thread to [email protected] and [email protected]". Same delivery, no menus โ€” useful when you're already in a Via conversation.

Whitelist verification

Verification protects your team from accidentally exfiltrating internal threads to typos like [email protected]. Each address must click a one-time link before it can receive any forwards.
  • Pending addresses show as โณ pending until verified.
  • Verification links don't expire, but re-adding sends a fresh one.
  • Admins can remove entries at any time from the dashboard.

Trusted domains

Want every employee at your org to receive forwards without per-address verification? Email [email protected] and we'll add your domain. After that, any address ending in @yourdomain.com is implicitly allowed.

Trusted domains are reviewed by Viably staff to prevent accidental inclusion of public-mail providers (gmail.com, etc.). There is no self-serve write path.

Guardrails

  • Only members of a channel can forward from it โ€” Viably never reads private channels it hasn't been added to.
  • Every forward is logged so admins can audit who sent what, where.
  • Images are uploaded to private storage and referenced via signed URLs that expire โ€” the email contains a permanent inline copy.
  • Disable the power entirely from Powers โ†’ Email if you want to switch it off temporarily.
